The best resorts in Montenegro - from Budva to Ulcinj

  •     Budva ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - old town and promenade, developed infrastructure
  •     Becici and Rafajlovici ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - promenade
  •     Przno ⭐⭐⭐ - not much to see, but good enough
  •     Sveti Stefan ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - promenade, beaches Milocer and Sveti Stefan, panoramic platform "Crkva Sv. Sava"
  •     Petrovac ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - promenade, with walking tour to Reževići, viewpoint on Petrovac above the beach Lucice
  •     Bulyarica ⭐⭐ - beach is clean and large
  •     Čan ⭐⭐ - nice beach, but solid construction in 2022
  •     Sutomore ⭐⭐⭐ - the promenade is nice enough, the beach is big, but the water is very dirty
  •     ⭐⭐⭐ - long somewhat boring but still beautiful promenade, dirty water, infrastructure is developed
  •     Dobra Voda ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - a cozy village for a quiet beach holiday, but no more.
  •     Uteha⭐ - quite a beautiful beach and area, but the area is "outback" in fact.
  •     Ulcinj ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - the best old town in Montenegro and a very beautiful panorama of the city itself from the fortress walls.

Montenegro by car (Budva - Becici - Sveti Stefan - Petrovac - Sutomore - Bar - Ulcinj) - Part 1. Continuation (Kotor - Dobrota - Perast) - Part 2. Herceg Novi and Tivat - Part 3.

Montenegro (Montenegro) - a country of ideal ratio of price - quality of rest - beauty of nature - purity and environmental friendliness. Conventionally, Montenegro can be divided into two regions (relative to Tivat): Budva and Kotor (Budva Riviera and Kotor Bay). This article will describe the journey from Budva to Ulcinj.

Montenegro (Montenegro) - a country of ideal ratio of price - quality of rest - beauty of nature - purity and environmental friendliness.

We have visited Montenegro twice. The first time we flew by charter for two weeks, and we rented a car by place. For 2 weeks we had studied in detail all Montenegrin seafront from Ulcinj to Herzog Novi. Arrived in Tivat, the car was driven to the airport and then picked up there.

The second time we visited Montenegro as part of a car tour of Albania - Montenegro - Croatia. This time we visited the favorite places for a couple of days. Again, Montenegro is delightful - it is more beautiful in nature and better in service compared to Albania. Compared with Croatia, Montenegro again wins - the prices are lower, everything else is similar.

Budva is a central resort town in Montenegro with a developed infrastructure

The views are beautiful, the beach is long and clean... But the "megapolis" effect is felt in everything - there is no coziness and feeling of relaxation, peace and unity with nature. The beach is sandy (looks like a mixture of garbage more...) and quite narrow. Infrastructure here is developed quite strongly. Everywhere is full of shops, pharmacies and parking lots. The parking lots are free. There's even a gym in the Plaza shopping complex! A lot of clothing stores, but not brand name) The beach strip although long, but 1/3 is Old Town and the pier with boats, 1/3 is the river flows into the sea, it's a muddy area and only 1/3 is a normal beach. The beach, suitable for recreation is on the opposite end of the Old Town, near the huge complex Dukley (beautiful brown buildings overhanging the water and visible from everywhere). There is free random parking near this beach. The first line housing is not available here and in general the accommodation is at a distance from the water. The first two thirds of Budva are built up to the eyeballs, the houses are right beside the water and in 2022, construction is in full swing! The old town in Budva is very cozy, but also very small. It will take you no more than 30 minutes to walk around it. There are cafes and stores.

Just behind the Old Town of Budva there is a path along the water and the rocks. It is in the direction of Tivat. The path leads through two beaches and a hole in the rocks to rocks with a beautiful view of the Old Town. Above these rocks there is a goat path that goes to the left. Following it gets to the next vantage point and then comes out to the ruined fort. From which there is a road to Budva. The walk is suitable for the sunset. From the fort there is a gorgeous view of the Budva Riviera! From the old town, along the indicated route, with return via the highway on foot - about 1 - 1,5 hours. The walk is optional, but a satisfying nice)

Near Budva, 30 minutes drive from the old town, there are gorgeous beaches for all tastes!

  • Plaza Jaz - the first beach from Budva, but after Mogren) Located just off the highway to Kotor / Tivat. The beach is long, wide, clean, beautiful, cozy ..... The list goes on and on) It is one of the best in Montenegro. The number of parking spaces in the season of course a question, but it's everywhere so) Here the beautiful nature around. It is worth a visit. By the way, in 2022 they are actively making a promenade, so it will still be possible to walk among the cafes! At the end of the beach the river flows into the sea. Because of this there is a narrow and lovely shallow channel, which in summer will be perfectly warm.
  • Trsteno Plaža / Trsteno Beach - the beach is not big and the parking lot is not big. But it is very beautiful! Photo does not convey the atmosphere of the coziness of the bay! The water is absolutely clear. There is a sandy and concrete part of the beach - to choose from! It makes you want to come here and enjoy the atmosphere of relaxation...
  • Ploce beach is a promoted beach with signs pointing to it from the track itself. The beach is really good, but for aficionados. There are concrete slabs. But everything is done very high quality in terms of organization and appearance of the beach. The only thing is that there is no coziness, as it is not a bay, but an open place in fact. It is worth a visit.
  • Zagorski pijesak
  • Plaža Žukovica - concrete and stone beaches. Located furthest from Budva. The road, the closer to the beach, the worse and worse. As a result, passes in general into the pebbles, on which the car rolls, and the driver has wet palms) Not recommended to visit.

From Budva Old Town, in the other direction, there is a nice promenade that turns into a tunnel near the Dukley apartment complex, then there is a sign to Becici, then a sign to the beach. Once on the beach, you can walk to the right to the extreme point and enjoy the panoramic views of Becici and Rafajlovic. You can go behind the turn on the trail, but the trail will then go up and take you to the construction site or to the dump.) And then through the bypass of Duklja complex you can go back to Budva (this route takes about 2 hours, if you start from the Old Town). Or you can turn left in Becici and continue walking along the promenade Becici, which flows into Rafailovichi and then through a tunnel to Kamenovo)

Becici and Rafailovichi - "find 10 differences" - one beach smoothly passes into the other, without division

The area is beautiful and interesting enough for recreation. A long promenade for evening promenade. A wide long strip of beach. Beautiful views. Lodging in the various price ranges. The minus is the remoteness of housing from the sea. In the vicinity of housing only in Rafailovichi with a luxury price tag. Rest in Becici and Rafailovichi - the golden mean, there is infrastructure and at the same time, the nature prevails. The wider beach is closer to Budva. District Rafailovichi has a narrow beach, turning into concrete slabs. From Becici to Kamenovo (through the tunnel) is a chic promenade, which can be covered in one direction for about 1 hour! Walking is chic at any time of the year) In Becici there is also a section where the river flows into the lake, but the beach is not polluted by this, in contrast to Budva. The whole beach is sandy and clean!

From Rafailovichi to the neighboring beach Kamenovo leads along the promenade an interesting tunnel. Kamenovo beach is a very beautiful place, with crystal clear water and a small number of people. The small number of people is due to the remoteness of the accommodation (the nearest is Rafailovichi) and a very steep car descent.

Przno is a fishing village

Closer to the highway are "high-rises", near the water are "fishermen's" houses. This village is not very cozy and the beach is not very conducive to relaxation. The previous hiking we finished in Kamenovo. The next part starts in Przno. From here the path leads through parks, sometimes by the water, to the village Sveti Stefan. On the way there are Queen's Beach and King's Beach. The beach of Queen's is closed, you can take pictures through the fence. It is undeniably gorgeous! Milocer beach is also gorgeous, but in the season it is probably paid or closed... The next beach is Sveti Stefan. The walk from Przno to Sveti Stefan along the beach takes about 40 minutes one way. It is very beautiful here! A lot of coniferous trees and the whole way goes like a park.

Sveti Stefan - the highlight of Montenegro - a great choice for a holiday

Panorama Site #1 - Near the village of Przno there is a turn and a sign to the monastery Praskvica. At the monastery the road goes to the right, if you turn left and go to the indicated point on the map, the best view in Montenegro will open. To one side you can see the whole Budva Riviera, and below you can see the beautiful peninsula Sveti Stefan. The road is pretty steep, with small stones - an ordeal for inexperienced drivers) But the views are such that a visit to the observation deck is a must. The dotted map also shows a hiking trail, which I think will also be inspiring. If you choose, it is better to visit the Church of St. Sava (Crkva Sv. Sava).

The panoramic platform "Crkva Sv. Sava" is the best viewing platform in Sveti Stefan! Worth a visit for sure. The asphalt road goes almost to the temple. But there are no more than 5-7 parking places near the temple. Come here at sunset, and do it in advance to take a place) Before reaching the temple about 200 meters, asphalt road turns into dirt, there is a little more space for parking.

Directly the peninsula of Sveti Stefan is the elite housing. In the settlement here nearby, the prices are quite usual from 30 euros a night. The beach is clean, not crowded. Views are stunning. The settlement is cozy, but without much developed infrastructure and there is no big promenade for walks. The beach in the direction of Przno paid to the other public free. Beautiful 100% public, but in the season it is packed. Out of season, you can walk to the Old Town of Sveti Stefan on the bridge. From it, as well as from the rock, there is a gorgeous view of Budva and Becici!!! These views are considered to be one of the most beautiful places in the world! The park near Sveti Stefan - this is a loud statement) In front of the paid beach there are just benches and swings for children))

In the area of Sveti Stefan the following beaches, in addition to the two on the sides of the legendary peninsula:

  •     Crvena stijena - these are rocks boulders, not a beach... There is no connection with Sveti Stefan itself. It is necessary to bypass through the highway. At this "beach" the nearest turn on the right, to the second beach the road goes to the end asphalted, goes to the left.
  •     Crvena glavica - looks more like a construction site

Then come the two upper villages Drobnići and Rijeka Reževići, with "beaches". The map below shows them. There is no complete connection between the two beaches along the shore. But from the parking lot to the left, if you go down to the beach through the bushes and a narrow path, you can see that the beach is actively made. Whether it is private or it will be a new beach. But in 2022, it will be possible to see how it will turn out.

  •     Drobni Pijesak beach - There is a full parking for a very large number of places. In the season, of course, it is paid. There is no accommodation close by. The road from the highway leads straight to the parking lot, and from there it's another 100 meters to the right. The beach looks cozy! It's worth a visit in the summer.
  •     Presjeke beach - The road leads here from the highway. It ends in a private villa and you can walk down the hill a few meters to the beach. But is it a beach? Just a piece of the beach and that's it. It's not even worth coming here.

Petrovac - a perfect combination of evening promenade and beach vacation

The promenade itself is long. At the end, near the pier (before the castle "Kastio castle"), it still extends through the forest to the next beach Perazica Do beach through several tunnels. A great time for walks along this road is the evening sunset. On the opposite side of Petrovac is restaurant Ponta Beach Club. Not reaching it, there are steps spiral upwards with a sign "NO ENTRY". So if you go up the steps, they will change into a goat path, and this path will already come out to the observation deck on the city. From the observation deck you can go down the other side by the beautiful steps to the beach "Luchica Beach". Or you can come to this beach by car, there is parking and then take the same steps to the observation deck.

Lodging is close to the sea. Prices are quite low. The beach strip is narrow, but long enough, there are enough places for everyone. Although you can say that there are more people than in other settlements of Montenegro. Infrastructure is almost not developed. But the village is cozy and ideal for relaxation.

Buljarica - a huge beach with a small number of houses

From Lucice beach (there is a free, fairly large parking lot) to the beach Buljarica starts "goat" trail to the right, along the water above the precipice and walking asphalt path to the left, which skirts the mountain. You can take the goat path to Bulyaritsa and return along the civilized path. The walk takes about 1.5 hours. There is a small section along the goat path with panoramic views - no wind, comfortable stones to sit on, great views, birds singing, bees flying... Bulyaritsa beach is huge, there are several exits from the highway and there is enough free parking spaces. There is almost no accommodation on the beach, because of the soil. It seems to be a swampy area.

After Chani beach, the next nearest beaches are Malevik and others. It is almost in the village of Sutomore. Approach is from the highway on the red arrow. There is a chaotic large free parking lot. Straight downhill, the descent to the beach Malevik is quite long, though not wide and all in pine trees. To the beaches of Little Malevik and Strbina you can walk across the top through the woods. Along the water, there are not very good goat paths. The beaches are beautiful because of the pine forest. But whether it is worth going here is a question...?

Sutomore is an excellent choice for a holiday - the best combination of all parameters

Sutomore is a resort town with a long promenade, fairly developed infrastructure and budget accommodation. All accommodation is located close to the sea. Beaches are long enough to accommodate a lot of people and no one bothers anyone. But the special coziness and charm are not in this town. The sea with waves and there is no beautiful color, transparency. We liked the accommodation with a balcony overlooking the entire village (photo taken from the balcony). Sunset on the balcony for a delicious dinner - a truly relaxing. The beach and promenade are 3+. The sea water is very dirty, unlike all the other towns in Montenegro described above!!! At the beginning of the village there is free parking large enough, but not for the summer) The promenade along the water is passable by half. At the beginning of the village, the entry only for locals, there are poles.

Сутоморе в начале поселка - бесплатная парковка

After the main beach of Sutomore, small beaches begin, all the way to Bar. To be honest, you can safely pass this section, there is nothing to do here. More about this below, and after the map with the beaches there are photos.

Starting from Sutomore and up to Bar inclusive, the WATER is PURRENT on all beaches!

Plaža Zlatna Obala - access to the beach is only possible in one place and that through a gate with guards. So on this beach we looked only from the side. The beach is comfortable, but nothing unusual or special.

FKK Beach and Plaža Ratac FKK (both beaches on the side of the ruined monastery Tvrђava Ratac) are nudist beaches of old men on the rocks! The map shows parking in the square and there are free parking spots in the woods in the pine trees, too. But there's nothing to do here! It's piney and there are views, but it's very dirty - condoms and tissues everywhere!!! A lot of garbage, it is disgusting even to walk around (And there are enough views in Montenegro. Plus the nudist beaches, where only men are over 50 years old...

Črvanj / Wild Beach - the beach is not small, but the water is dirty and the parking lot is only for a couple of cars. Nothing to see...

Red Beach - I think there's a place for a beach, but again, the water is dirty and more parking is private, i.e. there's none.

The beach at Skerovic Plaza belongs to the local apartments and whether it is open in the summer for everyone is a big question. The beach looks nice, but still dirty water.

And now a photo of it all)

Bar is not a resort town

It is a large (by Montenegrin standards) city with a port promenade and large supermarkets. But for the rest of the city is not suitable at all. It is more convenient to rent accommodation for a year. The water and beaches are polluted by ships. Lodging is located far from the beach area. The promenade is huge, but it is just wide. Cafes and other places to relax are few. An hour in this town and you want to go to another village in Montenegro. But it is worthwhile to walk along the promenade - time of visit is about 40 minutes one way. The promenade is interesting because it changes the view several times. That it is an alley of pine, then it is palm trees, etc. There are benches and plenty of room for everyone walking. But it is worth coming here just to walk around for once. The beach here is long and wide enough, but the water.... muddy and dirty!

Bar Old Town - a sightseeing attraction for half an hour

Since 2022 the entrance fee is 3 euros. For what I do not understand. The fortress in the Old Town is all ruined, there are no views. The paid entrance to Kotor fortress still can be explained at least views) Parking near the old town of Bar is paid and free - all in one place, you only need to look for places on the free parking. Walking through the old town first down the steps from the parking lot, and then up the steps through the stores, one gets to the gate - the entrance to the fortress. A visit to the old town and fortress is 1 hour along with photos, finding a parking spot and the whole walk... It is possible to come, but if you are nearby.

Dobra Voda - nice resort village

After the town of Bar on the highway there is a panoramic view of the village of Dobra Voda. You can't miss it, the views are beautiful! In the village itself the accommodation is all close, the water is clean and clear in places, muddy in places. On the beach a lot of space ... But for some reason it causes a feeling of "village". The promenade is between the two beaches for 30 minutes back there. More suitable for "belly beach" vacation. There is no coziness in the village, it is like sprawled out along the water. Two beaches:

  •     Plaža Mali pijesak "Space".
  •     Veliki Pijesak Beach

In 2022 the village is under active construction.

Uteha - the village is small, but cozy!

Parking is free, but for a couple of cars, rather for those who live in the area. On the map below you can see the beaches:

  •     Utjeha Beach Uvala Maslina - surprisingly "almost" clean (the water is slightly muddy) and a cozy beach! There is not enough accommodation and it is not luxury.
  •     Nude Beach - a hole in the mountains, with crumbling rocks, not a nudist beach. It is also more of a local "toilet" than a beach.
  •     Utjeha "Small beach" - several concrete levels for sunbeds. The views are so-so.
Utjeha Beach Uvala Maslina
Utjeha "Small beach"

Next comes a succession of beaches where parking is almost impossible and they are all only suitable for those who have settled there. You should not come here on purpose!

  •     Paljuškovo is a small, but cozy beach with pebbles. Parking is nowhere to be found. There is nothing to do here.
  •     Utjeha Plaza Kod Slavko - the beach itself is very small, but the map below shows that along the water there is a concrete path with concrete beaches. Parking is not provided for visitors. But settling here and going to the local beaches would be a pleasure. The region is similar to Dobrota in Kotor, by the design of the concrete beaches. The water is very clean and the views are beautiful! We found a pocket where we climbed to park and walked along the shore - we loved it!
  •     Cristal Beach is a beach with a goat path leading to it, no parking anywhere. We didn't even go down to it. There is a nice panorama on the way to Cristal Beach. But there is nothing to do here either)
  •     Beach Kruče - a pretty long, clean and beautiful beach. But again, parking is only for those who live there.

Ulcinj - the best old town in Montenegro

It is worth going here just for the photos and for a walk through the old town. The old town must be visited in the evening for dinner on one of the chic terraces!!! All the houses in Ulcinj kind of flock to the small rounded beach. Photos turn out beautiful just from the fortress walls of the old town) And the rest in the city can be said to be difficult. There is no promenade, the beach is small, with tight sand (more like dust!) and a lot of people. The descent to the sea is at a very steep angle, especially for walking. The streets are narrow. And if you decide to drive to the seafront by car, be prepared for a traffic jam for an hour or two. The parking space can be found only by a miracle. And if someone pulls out or tries to turn around - the traffic slows down for about 15 minutes around. We did one lap around the embankment and parked at the top a couple of miles from the shore and walked. Once there, you don't want to go back again. But still, once is a must stop by!!! It reminds us of Parga in Greece and Goreme in Cappadocia (Turkey). The old town is very cozy and beautiful. The interesting thing is that you can walk through all the cafes and hotels there. It turns a mess with the route, but it is fun and very nice) Also, in the cafe smells good))).

On the opposite side of the old city, too, there is a viewing platform on the city, but there is not so beautiful) By the way, from here begins a walkway that turns into a hiking trail all the way to the beach "Miami". But neither the road nor the trail is nothing of itself. The road is the area of a couple of abandoned hotels (like a time machine). When the asphalt ends, begins the road through the woods in the pine forest - this is the best part, it's about 600 meters. On it by the way quad bikes ride. You can still walk here, but we do not recommend it because of the lack of views. Then begins a narrow path with no views and a lot of animals in the bushes) We reached a point on the map, listed as a panorama of Ulcinj ... in fact, rocks and the city in the distance, nothing to see. From the end of the asphalt, it's about 1 km, but it's not worth it. To the beach "Miami" walk about 2.5 km. In fact, this is the first beach on "Velika plaza Ulcinj".

Velika plaza is dust, not sand. There is a strong wind. Nearby is a pine forest, but there are no trails for walking, no desire to lay a blanket and lie down to rest. The whole pine forest looks dirty, from the same "dusty" sand. The water is filthy! The whole atmosphere is reminiscent of some of India's beaches in Goa. Along the road there is housing, look ala sovdep... Going here is not even worth looking at!

If you choose where to stay in the region of Montenegro: Budva - Becici - Sveti Stefan - Petrovac - Sutomore - Bar - Ulcinj, it would be Petrovac, Sveti Stefan, Rafajlovici. But we advise you to visit all the villages and towns, each is truly unique and beautiful in its own way.
