When the borders in the country are closed, people start looking for "What can be seen at home")) So now the Internet is full of the name "Dnieper Maldives". We decided to check whether it's so interesting and whether it's worth the trip at all).
What is the "Dnieper Maldives" - it's quarry Volnogorsk quartz sand - the local beach Karakum!
How to get to the quarry? We can tell you in detail how to get from Dnieper to Volnogorsk quarry by car. One way we went by Krivoy Rog highway and turned right to Volnogorsk. This way is absolutely acceptable by the standards of Ukrainian roads - 107 km in less than 2 hours. The second way is through Verkhnedneprovsk, Ukrainka, Kamenskoye - it is not the road, it is a direction!!! From Volnogorsk to Verkhnedneprovsk no road - the speed of 20-30 km / h!!! Total 108 km for 3 hours.
By the way, there is a railroad line just next door, and it is near the quarry, there is a stop of the train from Dnieper Krivoy Rog. The stop is 104 km. Below on the map you can see the route from the stop.
The route through town to the quarry itself is shown on the map below - the exit from town is indicated by point 1. Near the farm with solar panels there will be a sign to "The Beach" (point 2 on the map). Don't be frightened - there is a dirt road everywhere, it's a quarry, not a real resort)). In some places this dirt road is just "a mess of mud. That you can say unequivocally - in the rain is not worth to come here) In the dry weather, any sedan will easily pass, and the jeep simply skipped. Point 3 is a place to park your car. Everything is free, there are plenty of places))) Not many people still know about this place in May 2020) The exit to the beach goes through a small isthmus of sand.
TIP: Think in advance about the shoes. You will need to walk on the sand. The sand is almost everywhere hard, only in some places soft, especially soft in the isthmus at the entrance of the beach from the parking lot. For anyone interested, there is a man who professionally teaches you how to swim on a windsurf board.
Volnogorsky quarry - the Dnieper Maldives? Is it worth the trip?
It's not the Maldives, exactly) Maldives is not just sand and water, it's nature and climate! And there by the side of the plant for sand mining ... As always - you decide) According to the classics, we say that it is not worthwhile to go from afar! Even from the Dnieper whether to go in the spring? - big question! The road will take 4 hours, and there is nothing to do more than a 30-minute walk in place. In the summer time there will certainly move crowds of people for sunbathing on the beach and bathing in the azure water, and the place there is not so much .... so again it's questionable whether to go or not.
Did we like it? - Definitely YES! But at us the purpose was to ride and see with his own eyes advertised in the internet place! We were not expecting any super views, so we were happy with the ride on Sunday afternoon. Moreover, there is a similar pit much closer to the Dnieper - the Elizavetovsk pit "Blue Lake" near the town of Kamenskoye.
If you like new places and walks, then you can safely go here! The main thing is not to wait for the real Maldives) Places are beautiful and worthy of attention. If you want you can come here for kebabs. There is a green zone around a quarry. Vegetation and trees not a lot, but still there is.
