Montenegro sights or what to see in Montenegro in 2 weeks - an ideal route!
As a starting point we take Budva as the most popular resort among tourists. Budva is the navel / center of the whole waterfront part of Montenegro. From Budva there are the following destinations to explore:
- Ulcinj (on the border with Albania).
- Kotor and Dobrota
- Tivat and Herceg Novi (near Croatian border)
- Podgorica and further directions to Mojkovac, Zabljak, Pluzine (near Serbian border)
In these areas there are 99% of attractions of Montenegro. Below on the map are approximate borders of these 4 miracle directions. The outlines are given conditionally to understand the area and the scale of the direction. It is worth to clarify at once that Montenegro is a mountainous country and do not look for a beach vacation here. You should go here to study the beauty of nature. For travelers there is a paradise) One should not limit oneself to visit the seafront, because the northern Montenegro is similar to the mountainous Italy and Switzerland, about which everyone has heard) Mojkovac, Zabljak, Pluzine, etc. - are still little-known, but very beautiful places.
The sights of the Budva - Ulcinj region:
- Budva Old Town, Budva Promenade - Becici - Rafailovici - Kamenovo
- Lipa Cave
- Sveti Stefan and St. Sava church
- Petrovac and the trail to Perazica beach
- Bar promenade and the old town
- Ulcinj Old Town - panoramic point "Qyteti i vjetër i Ulqinit
Time of visit: from 3 days.
This is the "classic Montenegro" that most tourists know. Cities with more developed infrastructure Budva and Bar, more beautiful cities Sveti Stefan and Petrovac. If you are not a beach goer, from this list 1 day is enough for you in this region! We walk through the old town of Budva, see Sveti Stefan from St. Sava observation deck, walk in the village of Petrovac, and in the evening we have dinner in the old town of Ulcinj. By the way, on the waterfront road - the track itself is an attraction. It runs along the top and you can see some of the settlements from a bird's eye view, making panoramas along the way. All along the route the road will wiggle and the views will change one by one! From Budva to Ulcinj it will take you 1.5 hours one way (if there are no stops and traffic jams).
The cave is worth visiting if you have not been to such caves before and if you are ready to spare half a day for it. To the cave from Budva drive 40 minutes, visit the cave 1 hour and waiting time of the excursion can also be 1 hour... Total for the cave you need to set aside about 3-4 hours.
Tivat and Herceg Novi sights:
- Tivat pier / promenade
- Herceg Novi old town and two fortresses, promenade to Igalo village
Time of visit: from 2 days.
If you are not interested in hiking, there is essentially nothing to do in both cities. Tivat and Herceg Novi are worth going to if you like to walk in the evenings along the promenade along the water itself.
Sightseeing in Kotor:
- St. John's Fortress, the old town of Kotor
- Promenade from Kotor to the village of Dobrota
- Vrmac peak
- Lovcen Park, Fortress of Gorazda
Time of visit: from 3 days.
This region is a pearl of sights in Montenegro. To get at least an overview you'll need 1 day to visit the town of Kotor. Kotor itself and the village of Dobrota - it's unique atmosphere, there is something similar in Italy on Lake Garda, namely in the village of Malcesine. In Kotor you have to stand on the quay by the cruise liner in order to feel how small man is in terms of nature and technology))) Then you should visit the Fortress of Ion (free entrance to Kotor fortress here). The fortress overlooks Kotor and looks like a "miniature". A bonus will be the chic old town of Kotor. That will be the program minimum. If you allocated 1 more day, you will not regret it! You should head to Lovcen Park along the Kotor serpentine. On the way there are several panoramic points on Kotor. To the mausoleum itself you don't have to go at all. The time of the visit starts from 3 hours. After you can visit the fortress of Gorazhda. The time of the visit is up to 1 hour. Vramac peak is beautiful, but time consuming because of the roads. Therefore, peak Vramac and walk through the village of Dobrota for those who, well, very much liked Kotor) In total, we recommend to allocate at least 2 days here.
Attractions of the north of Montenegro:
- Pavlov Country on Lake Skadar
- Grlo Sokolova in the village of Ivanovo Koryto
- Moraca Canyon and Tara
- Durmitor Park, namely Black Lake
- The Piwa Saddle mountain pass
- Piwa Lake Canyon
Time of visit: from 4 days.
It is this region that makes the most of the opinion about Montenegro - it's beautiful and multifaceted!!! Day 1: Pavlov Country and Grlo Sokolovo (3.5 hours one way from Budva), it is possible to drive to Bukumirsko Lake +1.5 hours one way. Day 2: Moraca Canyon - Tara Canyon (to the bridge Djurdjevic) - Zabljak and Durmitor Park, namely a visit to the Black Lake - a full day of light. Day 3: From Zabljak we drive through the mountain pass "Piva Saddle" to Piva Lake - it takes about 4 hours to see everything.
In total, Montenegro can be seen in 2 weeks! It will be a quick tour, but you will see all the most beautiful things!!! Ideal time of stay is 1 month from May 15 or September 1. Montenegro route for the week: Budva - Sveti Stefan - Petrovac - Ulcinj, Kotor, northern Montenegro: Pavlov Country and Grlo Sokolovo, canyons of Morac and Tara, Zabljak and Durmitor, Beer Saddle and Beer Lake - for travelers who see only "the cream")
