Pamukkale, the "cotton" travertine is the most beautiful place in the world!
Pamukkale and the ancient city of Hierapolis (Greek: Ἱεράπολις) are located in the Denizli region of Turkey. On a visit there are peculiarities that I would like to share.
What to see - what is the order?
First, it is convenient to visit the ancient city, or rather the ruins of the amphitheater. After entering the territory, you need to turn right and walk up to the ruins - this is the theater. Then go down the path on the other side of the theater. You will come out to Cleopatra's pool.
The Cleopatra Pool is a "scam" for tourists!
You will be offered to swim in it for 10 c.u., arguing that it is a thermal "rejuvenating" spring with bubbles as from champagne). In fact, it will be a "frog" with muddy water without bubbles.
From the Cleopatra Pool to the right are the "old" fading travertines. If you walk further forward, just to the left of the pool, there are active travertines.
Tips for Pamukkale:
- Most, like us, go here from a tour operator. In the end, you will be taken to all sorts of stores of onyx, cotton, sweets and carpets before being brought to the place... You will arrive in Pamukkale tired and irritated. You will have to walk there under the Turkish sun at lunch time... You will not be very happy! It is much better to rent a car, at least for 1 day, for Pamukkale and drive there by yourself. It will be cheaper! It will be comfortable and you will be able to visit other sights at the same time.
- Ideally certainly come here in the spring or autumn. Will be a few people (on a photo of operating travertine it is visible a crowd of people!) And it will be possible to walk not under the scorching sun. By the way at the bottom of the travertine beautiful lake and the view opens on the travertine! But excursion there does not carry( And to go down on the sun, moreover at restriction of time by the guide not komilfo.
- To reach independently on public transport not absolutely convenient. You will need to adjust to the bus schedule and make several transfers (depends on where you go, in Denizli exactly).
