Split is the region following Makarska and the metropolitan city of the same name.

Split sights:

  •     Diocletian's Palace + old town - visiting time from 1 hour. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  •     Riva embankment - time to visit from 30 minutes, it goes step by step to Park Šuma Marjan. ⭐⭐⭐
  •     Park Šuma Marjan - a park, an ordinary wooded area. ⭐⭐
  •     Vrh Telegrin - here you can walk up the steps with views from the Riva embankment, or you can drive up by car to the point indicated on the map, then still walk to the top. The walk from the parking lot is about 20 minutes one way. On the map below are two hiking routes to the top. From the promenade through Marjan Park, the views are more beautiful on the way, but it is a bit longer and there are many steps to climb. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
  •     Klis Castle - view of Split. ⭐⭐

The traffic intersection in Split is not convenient, if you miss a turn, you have to go around for half an hour! The traffic is not understandable, although the streets are wide enough. Parking is free and paid, there are enough spaces everywhere.

The sights of the city of Split are studied in a logical sequence. We arrive at the parking lot on the embankment of Riva. We walk along the promenade, look at the old town and, of course, Diocletian's Palace. Then you can walk up through Šuma Marjan park to Vrh Telegrin observation deck. The ascent will be on steps, rather long, but with beautiful views. Or you can do as we did. On the observation deck itself you can not drive by car, only regular buses go. But you can drive up as close as possible and walk up to the top. On the embankment parking is paid, and the park is chaotic free. Next we go to see the fortress of Klis.

The Riva promenade is more photogenic than beautiful and cozy.... Didn't really like it. This is also where the ferries come in.

After Omis to Split, there is nothing to see. Omis is described in another article about Croatia. All the villages are along the road. Although in some places there are hiking trails along the water's edge. A more distant village from the road is Podstrana.

After Split comes a succession of single-type villages Kaštel Sućurac, Kaštel Kambelovac, Kaštel Stari, Kaštel Štafilić, etc. .... All these settlements Kastel you can drive along the water, almost everywhere the road is combined with the promenade. In some places, there are remnants of the old cities. Particularly unimpressed with any of the villages. Divulje in general is a semi-military village. The next is a well-publicized Trogir. We went there this time for a walk, because we did not like it last time. In the end, it was confirmed) The old town is very small! The embankment is small. In summary, it took us 40 minutes to get through everything. Last time we liked Rogoznitsa. Rogoznitsa - a beautiful walking village. The whole promenade, to walk one way would take 2.5 hours - no less! We decided to see other small villages in more detail, but alas and ah...

Seget Vranjica - rural vacation)

On one side of the village is a real Croatian village) Budget cabins at an inflated price... Beach along the road - here people lie, here cars are parked! The promenade in the evening sucks to say the least. The institutions look like diners, stores don't exist here. On the other side is a contrasting campsite. Note the campsite is modern! It's a whole town with a great infrastructure. It even has its own mini promenade, which is nice, though very small. The beaches are nice enough too. So if we go to Seget Vranjica, we should go to a campsite. The campsite has a choice of everything: a space for a car, a tent with electricity and water. There are separate public clean showers and handromats (self-service laundry). All things considered! There's also a choice of cabins, ranging from wooden to chalet to luxury bungalows.

Markings on the map below:

  •     Beaches and "promenade" of the village
  •     The beaches of the private villas, along which you can walk right on the water's edge after section 1
  •     the beaches and promenade of the campsite
  •     The promenade wild towards Trogir

Walking through all sites will take at least 1.5 hours one way.

From Seget Vranice to Vinišće all the villages are along the road, there is nothing to see.

Vinišće is a Croatian fishing village!

Vinišće village was chosen as the largest, among the green area on the map above, which is in the form of a "jupka". The road here is the only one, it takes about 20 minutes just to drive on it ... The village has a long promenade (on foot one way, 1-1.5 hours), but is extremely uninteresting. You walk like in a village! And you swim near rusty fishing boats (the water is really clean, but cold. And the wind blew here almost all week. In general who likes silent, very silent rest, it is possible to go here. Travelers should not even come here. To settle here it is possible anywhere, beautiful places and good beaches is not present!

Klis Fortress is another Split landmark

It overlooks the city. You don't need to go inside and pay an entrance fee. You can see the view from the outside as well. The view is not very natural) We don't recommend you to go there specially... From the fortress we saw a "picturesque place" - "Vranjica". But in fact, it turned out to be an industrial area. The views are beautiful only from afar... It's not worth the trip either! On this "peninsula" you can drive counterclockwise and look at the garbage and all kinds of scrap metal around...

Greedy Croatians - their mentality or attitude towards tourists?

We have been to Croatia three times already and each time we encountered the attitude of Croats to money! You cannot say that they are a poor nation, but why are they so greedy for tourists' money. There is a feeling that if you come to us, you pay a bribe...

  •     Rental prices are inflated not commensurate with the development of infrastructure in the country. Any housing is expensive here, even in the most remote village. We clarify that we are talking about the waterfront and the summer season. For 4000 euros in a season here it is possible to remove one flat with 20 meters square, without any special conditions ... Or for the same money, about an hour away from the beach ... but with conditions. Under the conditions, please note, should be understood - the washing machine, microwave, oven ... Are these special requests? Greed knows no bounds. And laziness at the same time. As Croats prefer to rent only in the summer, and then either rent for the whole year, or close!!! In May, to rent something, you have to try - almost no one is working. Bottom line, they want to make all the money in the world over the summer, so they don't have to worry about renting later.
  •     About the close relationship between pharmacists and local doctors is described in another article. And it's all taken care of - without a piece of paper, you're "poo-poo"!!! And the piece of paper, that is, a prescription written from the patient's words - 10 euros.
  •     Separately, I would like to point out the fee for entry anywhere! Okay, the things that the Croats call national parks, like Plitvice Lakes and Krk, but when they take money to make a photo from the mountain!!! They did not build the mountain. Moreover, they did not even beautify this mountain! And a lot of fortresses, for the entrance of which they take money, but in fact there is nothing inside!!! Take a token fee, not 75 kuna for any "fart". Some parks, like Mljet, are worth a whole article of anger for the money and time tourists wasted!
  •     Well, the punchline is a few instances of encountering trickery by Croatians at check-in. We travel with a dog and notify each lodging, at the time of booking. Accommodation choose necessarily using the filter "possible with pets. So, one lodging option responded - ok, for the dog. At the same time did not say a word for the additional fee. On the day of arrival, we offer the money for accommodation and what do we hear in response? You check in and pay tomorrow... The next day we bring the bill, increased by 70 euros for the dog!!! That is, with the amount of 500 euro for the accommodation itself, is not a lot for a dog? Why was it not possible to notify at the time of arrival that we would have to pay for the dog almost as a full human? We should have waited until we had our bags unpacked and were just too lazy to move out... Well very unpleasant! In another room, there was a mishap when paying again the number of arrivals. We had paid for three people before arrival, but when we came we were told that we had paid for two! At the same time they asked us to pay 75 euros when we had paid for 1000 euros for 5 days! All these moments do not adjust for relaxation.( Another trick is that the sites, like Bucking, the owners put ordered from profesionals photos, and in fact - there is no view of the sea, there is no terrace, there are neighbors in the same house or the owners live, or a view of another house, or even a cemetery ...
