Continuing the article on what to see in Northern Ireland, we carry on our trip around Ireland, but heading south.
A weekend route around Ireland:
a walk around the centre of Galway⭐⭐
including a stroll along the pedestrian street Quay St + The Latin Quarter and the Waterway Trail Soundwalk (Bowling Green) promenade. It is convenient to leave the car in the paid car park PARKING - Spanish Arch and take a walk along the route below, lasting about 1-1.5 hours. There is no point in coming here specially!
a drive along the Atlantic coast to the Cliffs of Moher ⭐
next, from the town of Galway we drove along the Wild Atlantic Way. The route is shown below - but you should not do this - there is nothing to see!!!
Cliffs of Moher - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Near the Cliffs of Moher there is a paid car park, Cliffs of Moher - Car Park (coordinates XHCH+X2, Lislorkan North, Knockevin, Co. Clare, Ireland). Note that in essence this attraction can be visited for free! Nobody checks tickets anywhere along the way, and it is impossible to organise that - there are no barriers. On the spot, at the entrance to the car park, they charge 15 euros per person in the car, and so on for each person. Since there is no other car park, drive a little further on, drop everybody off, and return to the car park yourself and pay for just one driver. What is more, you can buy tickets online through the official website bookings.cliffsofmoher.ie. Note that the price depends on the planned time of the visit: if you take a ticket at the car park, it is always 15 euros, while through the website you can buy it for 12 and even 8 euros. But the entrance is valid only for the two hours you have chosen, otherwise you will simply have to pay the difference in ticket price up to 15 euros.
The map below shows the parking place and the walking route in both directions, south and north. But the routes in both directions are not fully open, apparently because of damage to the path. As a result, the walk on the marked section takes about 2 hours - from the car park and back to the car park - about 4-5 km on foot in all.
Dublin sights ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (continued in the article: What to See in Northern Ireland)
- Powerscourt Estate + Powerscourt Waterfall (Powerscourt Waterfall Entrance + Powerscourt Waterfall Parking) ⭐⭐⭐ It is better to buy tickets to the estate online - about 15 euros per person. Parking is free right by the entrance to the estate. A walk around the grounds takes no more than 50 minutes. Beautiful, but nothing special. It is about 1 hour's drive here from Dublin. From the estate to the waterfall it is about 20 minutes by car. On the way there is a barrier with payment - about 8 euros per person. The car park right by the waterfall is huge and free. The waterfall is beautiful, like all of the world's nature) But with the number of people wanting to stroll and have a barbecue here... there is not much sense in coming - you will not get any relaxation(
Phoenix Park - a park with tame deer right within the city limits of Dublin!!!
In Phoenix Park the deer roam freely and are quite easy to find, even in several places. You can drive along Chesterfield Ave and look - a large herd is visible from the car. We found deer in two locations, shown on the map below: 53° 21' 14.47" N, 6° 18' 45.17" W with the nearest car park Phoenix Cricket Club Car Park (free) - there was a large herd here.
- Howth Cliff Walk (Green Route) (Howth Head Peak + Lighthouse and Bay viewpoint (photo point) + Viewpoint of Cliffs (Photo point))
Howth Cliff Walk is an excellent scenic route along the water on a footpath. It takes about 1 hour one way (4 km). It is convenient to leave the car in the free Balscadden Car Park, walk to the lighthouse, and call a taxi for the way back through the "Freenow" app from the location at coordinates 53°21'57.4"N 6°03'38.4"W. It is impossible to call a taxi to the lighthouse.
- Keoghs Cafe with very tasty muffins! In the historic centre of Dublin there is a café with very tasty muffins, be sure to visit. But towards lunchtime the display cases are almost empty...
