Being supporters of the theory "The more you know about a country before you travel, the more colorful, comfortable and safe it will be!", we will talk about Montenegro!

When is the best time to travel? What places to visit? How much money should I have with me? And what is the best way to get to the sights? This information is extremely important if you want to see the most and lose the least time!

Let's start with the climate - Montenegro is for lovers of summer and winter holidays!

Bathing season in Montenegro - when is it? - "From May to October". Here we have answered one of the key questions of "beach lovers". But is it the only one? - Not at all!

Montenegro is not only the best beaches, but also ski vacation!

So, back to the local climate:

  1. Winter: the time of "skiers". And if in the high mountain region (Zabljak, Kolaszyn) the temperature does not rise above 0 degrees in January, for towns close to the sea is marked by 6 degrees plus! And on the coast as much as +13! Precipitation is common throughout the country for the winter season. Features of the winter season:
  •     In Zabljak and other Montenegrin highlands, December brings the longest rainfall (up to 17 days per month).
  •     The water temperature on the beach is equal to the air temperature (up to +13).
  •     February is the most popular time for skiing. During this time, the snow cover is the most stable.

  1. Spring: excursions in the TOP. Although at this time of year in some regions of Montenegro there is still snow, on the beach it is already a full-fledged spring! Budva and Kotor give as much as 15 degrees already in March! In the ski region, the temperature readings stay between +5 and 0 Celsius. Other features of spring climate:
  •     April is the time of excursions, although there is still a high amount of rainfall (it is better to bring an umbrella). At the same time the temperature on the coast already reaches +20!
  •     May - the first people wishing to swim appear (water temperature is already +17 ... +18 C.). And the sunbathing season is fully opened! Precipitation is observed throughout the country, but it is less in regions such as Bar, Budva, Podgorica. Some towns that are in the lowlands can easily be flooded with the next rain. The spring rains that we personally caught lasted for 3 days uninterrupted!

  1. Summer: the bathing season is open. Herceg Novi, Budva, Ulcinj and beaches in other regions report temperatures of +25 ... +27 degrees! If we are talking about Cetinje, for example, here you will need nothing but warm clothes - up to +13 during the day. Other features of the climate of Montenegro at this time:
  •     Precipitation becomes short-lived, its frequency decreases markedly.
  •     In August the amount of precipitation increases. This is felt more on the coast than in other regions.
  •     The hottest month is August. For example, at this time in Kotor the thermometer readings can rise to +31.
  1. Autumn: Beaches "-", precipitation "+". The transition period begins in October. And if in September precipitation is still a rare phenomenon, in October without an umbrella it is better not to go out all day. Peculiarities of Montenegrin climate in Autumn:
  •     The best beaches remain so - at least still in September! The water temperature to +23 is quite comfortable!
  •     End of October - beginning of November - the rainy season begins. At the seaside resort of Montenegro the air is no longer warmer than 18 degrees.
  •     In the mountainous region the climate is noticeably cooler (at night the temperature may drop to +2!).

Montenegro is mountains + sea. (I.e. it is a resort of a wide profile) If you wanted to swim and sunbathe, tired - went to cool down in the northern regions of the park Durmitor. This is what concerns the summer. In winter, if truth be told, the only ideal thing is to relax on the ski slopes, because the embankment is at the mercy of wind and rain... Sunny days here are not as much as in sunny Spain, for example. Without vegetation and tourists Montenegro quay even in March and April looks depressing (Below, for comparison, we will give spring and summer photos) From March to May the temperature rises by 2 degrees a week, starting from 12 degrees. In March and April the nights are getting colder, in May the daytime temperature may be the same as in April, but night-time will not fall below 18 degrees - and it says that the stable heat has come - Summer! At the end of May the temperature is already summer, up to 28 degrees. The colder temperatures come from the rains and winds that can last for days and can be brutal. After the winter there is also trash, branches everywhere - mud that is cleaned only in May! The beaches are particularly badly affected. Though anybody and does not bathe when it is cold, but to walk on dirty beaches, with the closed and boarded up cafe as that not komilfo...

Sand, pebble, concrete - and what kind of beaches do you prefer? Montenegro has it all!

The coastline of Montenegro is as much as 73 kilometers! And it is "dotted" with beaches, both public and private, nudist and wild, sandy, pebble, concrete! It really is a unique country, because it can meet any kind of beach!

Sandy beaches - why are there so few of them in Montenegro?

Such sandy beach lines are very rare here. They can be found only on the southern coast of the country (in the suburbs of Ulcinj). We are talking about the famous and by many accounts quite good beach "Velika Plazha".

In all cases, where it is possible to meet a sandy beach here, it is imported sand! Bring it usually in May, and already by July or, at best, by August all sand is already washed away.

It is important to count on the credibility of the reviews and photos that the beach with imported sand is 100% sandy, too, is not worth it! One year the renters or local authorities can bring sand here, and the next year it will be a mixture with pebbles.

Pebble and sandy-pebbly beaches are the dominant features of the Montenegrin coastline!

Next to all advantages of sandy beaches headed by their "softness", there is a mass of minuses: sand constantly gets in bags holidaymakers, on the towels, flies in the eyes when wind gusts, and in the sea formed mud and filth!

The best in Montenegro and the world are considered sand and pebble beaches. Here is the best rest on the sun beds. It is clear water and no sandy swirls. This is the texture that dominates the Montenegrin beach resort. Among the chic pebble beaches is Milocer beach.

Concrete beach - analog of bathing in the pool, only in the sea!

The design of such places of rest consists of several details:

  •     Fully concreted surface of the beach.
  •     Rest and sunbathing in its majority occurs on the sunbeds.
  •     Steep descents - there is no need to stampede in shallow water for a few tens of meters.
  •     The descent to the water is organized by special stairs, or with a "springboard" if the depth and design of the beach allows.

This variant of rest is mainly intended for holiday-makers who can swim. By the way, you will have to pay for a deck chair, too. The best concrete beaches are oriented in Tivat, Perast, Boko-Kotor Bay, Herceg Novi Bay. The best in the opinion of many tourists is holiday in "Ploce" - concrete beach 12 kilometers from Budva.

The best clean beaches in Montenegro - fresh evaluation of the current season 2022

For most, the beach is divided into 2 zones: the bathing area and the shore. And if we talk about the coastal zone, many resorts can seem dirty for vacationers. The blame for all this a large number of tourists, many of whom live according to the principle "after me even the deluge.

According to local laws in the recreational area beaches should be cleaned once a day! In practice, it is done in the morning and evening. Want to get to a clean coast - come here in June / early July, when tourists are still not so much.

Since June 2004 the beach Mogren (near Budva) is considered the cleanest and cleanest - winner of the "deep flag". The crystal clear emerald-colored water attracts crowds of tourists, so in the peak season here you have to "take a seat in the evening".

After Mogren in the ranking of the best beaches are also included:

  1.     Kamenovo, a sand and pebble promenade in a semi-enclosed bay near Budva. The water is blue, transparent, with a bright turquoise hue.
  2.     Sveti Stefan is a beach on the territory of the park with a view of the medieval castle of Sveti Stefan. The area is divided into 2 parts - on one side is a city beach, and on the other side is the one dedicated to the place in the ranking. It is open exclusively to residents of the island, for all others the entrance cost 100 c.u. until this year. In 2022 it will be available to all. Nearby is another beautiful and clean beach - Milocer, which was also previously denied access.
  3.     Ploce - there is not even the slightest hint of sand, so we can not talk about a dirty coast. The water is maximum transparent and has an azure tint.
  4.     Hawaii is the only beach in Montenegro, which is concentrated not on the mainland - the island of St. Nikola. This is a pebble spit around the island. Going into the water is not the most pleasant - in some places there are concentrated boulders, overgrown with algae and quite slippery.
  5.     Trsteno is one of the 3 sandy beach resorts. In addition to the purity of the water here should be noted and warmer water than on the other beaches. All thanks to the fact that it is a cozy bay with a deep bay. The 5th place is due to the dirty lower level of the beach. On the upper level, however, there is more space and it is much cleaner.

Earlier, the beaches of the village of Dobrota could be classified as clean, but in 2022, the ecosystem has clearly been disturbed. The water in the bay is covered with bloated algae. In 2022, the promenade with clean beaches remains Herceg Novi.

Rating of the dirtiest beaches in Montenegro

The official statistics in this matter is unlikely to find, but based on the reviews of tourists will be able to make even more reliable statistics, backed by real experience!

  1.     Sutomore is the leader of our anti-rating not only in terms of water purity, but also on the coast.
  2.     Zlatna Obala is a resort east of Sutomore. Due to some distance from the city, the coast is a little cleaner, but the cleanliness of the water still does not shine!
  3.     Ratac FKK is not very popular. And there are several reasons for that: small size, rocky shore and sea entrance + dirty water.
  4.     Wild Beach - small size + dirty water + a minimum number of seats - a set of parameters, which also make it not the most visited in Montenegro.
  5.     Red Beach - with a fairly wide strip of beach there are still few tourists, for the same reasons. Let's go further in search of clean water!
  6.     Skerovic Plaza - the port city of Bar makes itself known! It certainly should not be reckoned among the resorts in Montenegro.

This list could be continued by resorts such as Serovic and FKK. In general, the entire resort line from Sutomore to Bar is an eternal quest for clean water! The exception in 2022 are the beaches of Kotor and the Bay of Kotor in general. In June 2022, almost the entire coastline is covered with bloated algae and stones in some kind of yellow plaque.

Rating of the longest beaches - the best promenade on the coast of Montenegro!

  1.     Velika Beach is 13 km long and the size of the beach allowed it to be divided into several recreational areas. But long does not mean best!!! Because of this beach to go to Montenegro is blasphemy)
  2.     Ada Bojana beach is 4 km long and up to 150 m wide. Its area can accommodate up to 13 thousand vacationers. From the same opera as the first beach in the ranking)
  3.     Becici - 2 km long and 50 m wide. In the mid-20th century Becici was proclaimed the best beach in Europe at a competition in Nice. The beach here is long, but not all areas are equally good. The best section is Slovenska Plaža. The promenade here is really long, but again, is it so good? The path in the main part of the promenade is narrow and everyone is "pushing with elbows". The promenade Becici + Rafailovichi, is not worse, and maybe even better. Promenade Herceg Novi - better unequivocally, but because of the division of beaches into small sections, can not take part in this ranking) Tivat Promenade in general is awesome, but for the reason that Herceg Novi is not included in this rating.
  4.     Copacabana is a 1,000-meter long promenade with a width of up to 100 meters.
  5.     Jaz - the beach behind Budva, which is 850 meters long. It is divided into 2 zones, the second of which is small and given to nudists. The beach is excellent, but the promenade is still weak, but you can see that this region is beginning to develop.
  6.     Milocer - 380 meters. It is a well-appointed coast 9 kilometers from Budva. The beach is, well, almost the best. The promenade is good enough just for a walk in nature, as there are no cafes or entertainment. The promenade Milocer smoothly passes to Sveti Stefan.
  7.     Kamenovo is a vacation on a stretch of only 350 meters long and the widest possible strip. The main feature is that until a few years ago, Kamenovo did not exist, it was a wild place. The same length has Plavi Horizonti in Przno Bay and Mogren in the suburbs of Budva. Here, all the beaches are great, but the promenade is not as such. You will have to walk on the sand and stones.
  8.     Janica is only 300 meters long and has a total area of 6000 square meters.
  9.     Trsteno is the smallest beach in our list, it is just 200m long. It is hidden between two capes. The beach Lucice has similar size (240 m). The beach is "candy" - well, it's very beautiful here)

The best beaches in Montenegro according to tourists (rating by popularity)

Among the many resorts in Montenegro can be identified a clear top ten beaches by attendance and positive reviews of vacationing tourists! Rating is based on the fact that the majority of tourists rest in the city of Budva and its surroundings.

Top 10 beaches by popularity:

  1. Kamenovo is the best beach of sand and pebble type on the Budvan coast in the opinion of most vacationers. The beach area is concentrated in a bay of semi-enclosed type near the village of Rafailovichi.
  2. Sveti Stefan is the most famous beach resort in Montenegro. On its territory you can enjoy not only a pleasant rest by the water but also swim with the view of the stunning architecture of the medieval castle of the same name "Sveti Stefan".
  3. Mogren closes the top three for "Best Beach". Here you can harmoniously combine a beach holiday with comfortable walks along the promenade, and spend time in the bar area.
  4. Trsteno is small, but comfortable. It has several levels of coastal area with parking. The lower one is located directly by the sea with a gentle entrance to the water, and the upper one is a few steps higher (it is much bigger).
  5. Ploce is another popular place on the Adriatic coast of the concrete type. It is a whole entertainment complex and recreation center for those who want not just to sunbathe, but also to have fun in a noisy company.
  6. Hawaii is a remote area (not the mainland). It is a good alternative to the city beach. The location is St. Nicholas Island. This is one of the few places on the coast of Montenegro, where you can watch the sunset over the horizon line on the water.
  7. Lucica is one of the few beaches in Petrovac. It is a wide coarse-sandy coast. The sand fraction is the same as on Mogrena.
  8. Copacabana is the best in the region of Ulcinj! It is concentrated in the southeastern part of the country and is part of the famous "Velika Beach".
  9. Žanica and Mirišta are both located on the peninsula of Lustica. They have become famous because of the established route to the Blue Cave (by water).
  10. Plavi Horizonti is not the most famous in the country, but it deserves a place in the ranking of the best in the county! It is located in the center of Lustica peninsula (in the middle of the infrastructure).

Montenegro Nudist Beaches - Famous and not so famous

In addition to active recreation in the classic coastal area, in Montenegro there is an opportunity to visit and nudist beaches! The most famous among them are:

  1. Ada Bojana is located in the city of Ulcinj. It belongs to the best sandy beaches with a hotel on its territory specifically for nudists. Here you can walk naked not only on the beach, but also on the territory of the hotel.
  2. Ratac is a naturist resort on the outskirts of Bar. Ratac is hidden from prying eyes by rocky cliffs and a pine grove.
  3. Jaz, namely its farthest part. This is one of the most popular shores of the Budvan Riviera, so the occasional visitor to the nudist part of the beach can disturb its holidaymakers. If this does not bother you, welcome!
  4. Sutorina - this nudist beach can be visited near Herceg Novi (Igalo area). Beach bars and cafes on the territory will allow you to diversify your vacation by the sea.

At the best nudist beaches in Montenegro, it is forbidden to take photos or videos, and you can't peep at other vacationers.

The best beaches in Montenegro. Already mentioned above and not - so which one to visit after all?

Budva is the central region of the resort area of Montenegro! This is where most tourists tend to organize their holiday and not in vain. The best beaches of the country are concentrated here! Let's go:

Beaches to the west, starting from Budva:

  1.     Plaža Ričardova Glava - located directly within the city, namely just behind the old town. Not worth seeing.
  2.     Mogren - divided into two parts by a rock, with a tunnel through it. You can relax here, if it were not for the tourists)))).
  3.     Calypso - 5-10 minutes walk from Mogren. Then rocks, fortress and nothing related to beach recreation within walking distance.
  4.     Jaz is one of the biggest and widest beaches, which makes it the best in the suburbs of Budva. Its special feature is having a separate trail along the promenade and a river that flows right into the sea at the end! It's a perfect spot!
  5.     Trsteno Beach - is located within driving distance from the city to the west (a few kilometers from Jazz). The area has several levels of recreation ground (with a pebble-sand and concrete base). There is relaxation, relaxation and more relaxation!!!
  6.     Ploce beach is a paradise for those who prefer to relax with a pool on the concrete beach. There are coffee shops, restaurants, private parking. Pretty glamorous, but for the amateur.
  7.     Plaža Žukovica - concrete and stone beach is the most distant point for rest from city limits to the West. It's a big challenge to get here... But is it worth it...

The best beaches in Montenegro east of the city center:

  1.     Greco Beach is the central city beach, located within the city's waterfront. Trash and Dirt. No and again no!
  2.     Slovenska Plaza - the best resort according to many Budvan tourists of the current season! The name is derived from the hotel of the same name, located nearby. It's nice, but a lot of people and coziness is not here.
  3.     Becici is several kilometers of beach area on the coast of the city (directly within the city limits). Its territory is within walking distance from the Budva promenade, through a tunnel. Nice and clean enough beach.
  4.     Rafailovichi has the same beach area as Becici, but is separated with a small, but no less attractive to tourists "Becicka". Oh here and the people, the beach is normal, but again, but...
  5.     Kamenovo beach is the best pebble beach in the opinion of many tourists behind the village Rafailovichi (along the seafront it is connected by a tunnel). A great place, but I doubt it will be comfortable for another year...
  6.     Przno - the beach in the old fishing village of the same name. Here the pebbles prevail, and among the visitors are mostly locals or holidaymakers, who rent apartments in this settlement (place is not the most popular in the Budva Riviera). Pretty good, but more like a fishing village than a relaxing beach.
  7.     Kraljicina is a mostly sandy beach strip deep in a crescent-shaped bay. Its small size and remoteness from the city, make it and the next location on our list (Milocer) one of the best attractive places for relaxation.
  8.     Milocer is a beach with a park on its own grounds. Numerous paths in the shade of trees makes for a comfortable promenade in addition to relaxing on the sand by the water. The best, the best!!!
  9.     Sveti Stefan - divided into several parts - well, everything is beautiful and clean):
  • A site set aside for residents and visitors to the island. It is undoubtedly possible to get here without this status, only in this case the entrance is paid - 100 c.u. as of the season 2022.
  • An area located a few tens of meters (from the first part of the beachfront it is separated by a bridge to the island and a small parking lot). It is a vacation spot for city dwellers of all wishing to swim with a view of the famous ancient island.
  • Crvena stijena - it consists mostly of boulders and rocks.
  • Crvena glavica is not the best choice for a comfortable time by the water. The local "scenery" looks more like a construction site.
  1. Drobni Pijesak - a few hundred meters of sand and pebble beach with small cafes on the shore. There is no special promenade here. This place is located solely in vehicular accessibility, with no possibility to reach it by trails along the promenade. Not a cozy place, although the water is clean.
  2. Presjeke is another beach "parody" for the amateur! It is a stone beach for spending time by the water in a small area, where it is unlikely to spread a towel or set up a deck chair.
  3. Perazica Do beach is a resort in Petrovac. Here it should be noted not only the presence of all conditions for a good rest, but also the possibility of an excellent promenade along the waterfront with tunnels, forest paths by the water, restaurants and cafes.
  4. Luchica beach is part of a gorgeous panoramic hiking route from the town of Petrovac in Montenegro, to which several tunnels and a cozy path along the shore lead. Abalden beach)
  5. Buljarica - A long waterfront strip with options for both classic sunbathing on the beach and camping.
  6. Chan is exclusively for traveling to it by car. Has a long waterfront area with hotels, restaurants and tourist centers. Why is it not popular? It is beautiful and very clean, but there is construction.
  7. Malevik is a beach that is more like a vacation in the woods by the water. It is just a few dozen meters of pebble beach, surrounded by rocks and trees.
  8. Sutomore is a resort town with a long promenade. In contrast to all other vacation spots in Montenegro, the cleanliness of the water here leaves much to be desired. But there is a place to take a walk here! Garbage and dirt, just like in the song).
  9. Zlatna Obala has a private territory with entry through a guarded post. It is possible to see it, but only to see...
  10. Ratac FKK - a water recreation place for nudists in the suburbs of Ratac. Dirty and, to put it mildly, not very comfortable!
  11. Wild Beach is another resort within Ratac, and although its size allows for quite a few "beachgoers", it is not very popular because of the cleanliness of the water and shore. Disgusting(
  12. Red Beach is another beach location to the east of Montenegro. Entrance here is from the highway, with almost no parking space. Dirtiness!
  13. Skerovic is a private beach. Whether it is open in the season there is not much desire to check, taking into account the peculiarities of the local shores.
  14. Zukotrlitsa is a beach promenade located on the opposite side from the port in Bar. In terms of purity of the pebble shore and water is the best in the region!
  15. Mali Pijesak Beach - a few hundred meters coastal area behind the village Dobra Voda. There are areas for people who like to rest both on the sand and on the concrete base. The area is beautiful and both beaches are quite comfortable and clean.
  16. Veliki Pijesak Beach is the best beach in the region of Dobra Voda. The resort is located directly within the village.
  17. Utjeha Beach Uvala Maslina - the cleanliness of the water here is a solid 4! Despite the considerable length of the beach, the beach, surprisingly, maximum cozy and has a comfortable holiday. Coziness and relaxation - the second name of the beach)
  18. Small beach is a resort for those who live and rent in the area. It is a few levels of concrete slabs with the ability to install sun loungers and a few tens of meters of the beach itself.
  19. Paljuskovo is a beach nook nearby. Its size is modest, and there are few tourists here - we pass by.
  20. Utjeha Plaza Kod Slavko - an area for promenade! Lots of trails along the beach with beautiful scenery - there is something to see, although the beach itself is small in size.
  21. Cristal Beach - "Crystal Beach" in a cozy bay, which is accessed by a goat trail.
  22. Beach Kruce - the cleanliness of the coast and the sea is of a high level and is located just behind the village Uteha. These beaches are more for the lovers of the local people, rather than visitors.
  23. Liman and Liman 2 are two maximal small beaches at the beginning of the waterfront zone of Ulcinj, the beginning of the local resort.
  24. Small beach in the suburbs of Ulcinj is a beautiful sandy beach within the city limits with a passable promenade along the entire coast. Black sand? Dusty!
  25. Ladies beach - concrete and stone beach a few tens of meters away with the possibility of resting exclusively on sun beds.
  26. Velika Beach - a long promenade consisting of several areas at the same time for swimming and recreation on the shore. Very uncomfortable and windy place!
