If you're getting there by car, don't make the mistake of parking. After researching reviews from the internet, we parked in the center a couple of miles away and walked up the signs. Some people wrote that they parked at the port and walked from there... Around the basilica itself is not a small parking lot! It's best to drive all the way to the top and look for parking there on the spot. Or start walking down and look for parking - it will still be closer than walking from the center or the port)) At the beginning of October, the parking lot near the basilica was half-empty and there was a big turnover of cars. So even if it's busy, it'll be free in a couple of minutes. People come here mostly to take photos and don't stay long. The city sightseeing tour bus also goes to the basilica.
