A good place to start is when to go to the Netherlands!

It should definitely be summer! It's not sunny Spain or arid Egypt) Even for a week in late July, it was overcast and it rained one day. A windbreaker and an umbrella were constant attributes during the walks.

What to see in Holland?

Everyone knows just basically Amsterdam) But the Netherlands is a lot of other beautiful and interesting places:

  •     Rotterdam can be used as a place to settle. It is conveniently centrally located and will take at least 2-3 days to explore the sights in the city itself. Getting to neighbouring cities is easy and quick by train. The train can reach speeds of 120-150 km/hour, which is like an attraction in itself. Especially when compared to the trains in India and Sri Lanka, where they can reach speeds of up to 20-40 km/hour!
  •     Delft and The Hague can be visited in 1 day. Take a walk through the streets of Delft and have lunch on the Market Square. Take a train or tram to The Hague. There you explore the castle complex and get out on the promenade of the North Sea! Here, choose a cafe 'to your liking' and meet the sunset with a glass of wine.
  •     Amsterdam can easily be explored in 1 day. On the way you can pop into the cheese shop in Gouda (nothing else to do in Gouda). But that's not necessary, as Amsterdam will have similar shops too. The centre of Amsterdam is near the train station. You can walk around the streets of the city and see the buildings and museums. Near the train station is the legendary "Red Light District" which you can visit when it gets dark. Photos are not allowed, but you can walk around. Amsterdam is interesting in its architecture and canal layout - a mixture of Venice (Italy) and Wroclaw/Krakow (Poland). Amsterdam is of course museums and castles.

Cheese and Holland are truly associative synonyms!

There is also a cheese market in Gouda. In the shops, hard cheese can all be tasted! It's very convenient and seems to be easier to choose.) But that's not the case. Without sampling you could take a couple of pieces and that's enough...but when you try it...and they're all delicious!!!! You can safely bring home 3-5 kg of different kinds of cheeses! Cheeses are 2 times cheaper than in "soviet supermarkets". There is no sense to talk about quality - 5+!!! Molded cheeses require special attention) It just so happens that the first tasting of noble mould cheese took place here with Roquefort cheese in 2014. And the erroneous conclusion was drawn that such cheeses don't taste good!!! Tasting attempts in the "native supermarkets" further confirmed this... It wasn't until 5 years later, in 2019, that a cheese tasting in France took place. What a surprise it was that it was Roquefort cheese that was still not to be liked, but that didn't mean that blue mould cheeses weren't tasty!!! Trying it out showed that I like St. Agur and Gorgonzola - these cheeses tasted delicious! So if you try them, try as many as you can, even if the first bite seems to be completely inedible)!

Every country you see again is associated with something and is remembered. Just as Thailand is remembered for its bikes/mopeds, the Netherlands is full of bicycles) and the narrow, cosy streets along the canals. The canals are lined with lovely 'floating cafés'.
